Am I the Right Developer for Your App Project?

If you’re looking to hire an app developer and you’ve checked out my portfolio, you may be wondering whether I’m the right fit for your project. I published 5 apps up to this point and am still enjoying the process! …even when I’m fighting a bug. Upon looking at my work, you probably want to know if I am a match for your project. So let’s break it down.

Note: always make sure you’re a good match with your developer! I explained this in my articles Hiring an App Developer: Agency vs. Freelancer vs. Independent Developer .

What are my apps centered around?

As a mobile app developer, most of my apps are centered around fitness and mixed martial arts because those are areas I genuinely care about. If you read my previous article about MMA, you know I’ve been in the sport for 5 years and have no plans of resigning. So when someone wants a fitness-related app, I’m usually interested because I genuinely care about helping people stay active and engaged.

So because I don’t have a fitness related app you can’t do my project?

Absolutely not. As a custom app developer, I’m not limited to fitness-related projects. I created a bakery app Granny’s Kitchen for a client. That app has zero relation with fitness and I still had fun creating the app.

Here’s the thing: I do enjoy creating apps. Even when I don’t have clients I’m already thinking about the next app or demo to create. I study the topic daily because I want to get better and learn. I’m a knowledge glutton.

So answer the question…who are you not for?

I’m not for people who do not want involvement in their own project. I enjoy collaboration and want to make sure their app is to their liking. I’m not a mind reader and I’m not going to guess what they want.

I’m not for people who want the app fast. I’m a solo developer, so it isn’t possible for me to create an app within a few days and have it on the App Store. Now if you need the app immediately, I’d check out no code template apps like lovable or replit. I talk about those apps in my other article AI App Builders vs. Custom App Development: Which Is Right for Your Business? . A basic app usually takes at least a month, including testing, and more complex projects take longer. And even then that month isn’t guaranteed because a gross bug can occur, I could be unavailable due to being sick or an alien invasion (they’ll bring me back!). I take my time coding because I want to make sure it’s to your liking.

I’m also not for someone who wants free labor. I know you’re probably thinking “well duh I’ll compensate her!” But as a solo developer, starting off in the business world, folks have tried taking advantage of folks in the same position. Especially since I enjoy the app development. There have been times when people wanted me to review their code(that I haven’t done!) or QC their app that I was going to make. I would politely decline doing any work until documentation is signed. It protects both parties.

I’m not for someone who expects an app to magically make the business successful. I’ll be completely honest: an app by itself is not going to magically make your business millions. A custom app can make parts of your business easier, more organized, or more convenient for customers, but it is still a tool. It does not replace marketing, customer service, or a strong business model. I wish I had that power to give millions but unfortunately, I’m not a genie.

Think We Might Be a Good Fit?

If you’re ready to hire an app developer who communicates directly, wants your input, and will be honest about whether your idea makes sense, I may be a good fit. And if I’m not, that’s okay too. I’m not the right developer for everyone.
